Overview

Creative work accumulates faster than filesystems can organize. SOOT is a consumer-grade visual vector database for thousands of images, videos, references and files, but the interaction primitives for a self-organizing filesystem did not yet exist.

Traditional digital asset management organizes assets through folders and metadata. SOOT uses multimodal vector search to organize them by what they contain. That landed the opportunity: how do you browse a library that organizes itself?

Selected outcomes

Defined the product grammar for mapping information visually: Spaces, Views, search, focus, metadata, upload, selection and sharing.

The system turns an archive from a hierarchy of folders into a spatial field users can navigate, reorganize and publish, making complex ML infrastructure behave as simply as copy, paste, zoom and drag.

Role

Lead Product Designer across the interaction model: the primitives above, and the decision to retire the folder as the unit of organization.
